Tweak Your Skin Care Routine This Summer by Swapping Moisturizers

I made a version of this post in the winter, and I’m soooo happy to be able to make a spring/summer version. I’m so ready to pack up my winter clothes AND skin care products to make room for more summer-friendly products.

I love the warmer months, because my skin isn’t as dry and I don’t have to worry about protecting it from harsh winds and the bitter cold. During the winter, I reach for moisturizers that are thicker and more rich in formula to combat those harsh weather conditions, but during the summer, I like to let my skin breathe, and reach for moisturizers that are a bit more lightweight

Why is it beneficial to swap out moisturizers during the warmer months??

Thick, rich moisturizers are great for the winter because they protect the skin, but unless you suffer from excessive dryness during spring/summer, they may not be the best for warmer weather because they can clog your pores. Just like you wouldn’t wear a turtleneck sweater during the summer, you typically wouldn’t reach for heavy moisturizers either, because your skin doesn’t need the extra protection. You want a moisturizer that will hydrate your skin without adding any heaviness.

What kind of formula do I look for in a summer moisturizer??

During the warmer months, I like to reach for moisturizers with gel-like consistencies, because they're lightweight, non-greasy, quickly absorb into the skin, and tend to work well for most skin types.

What ingredients do I look for in a summer moisturizer??

Hydration is key in maintaining moisture and healthy looking skin. My skin has shown a great love for humectants, so I like to look out for moisturizers that contain a few. Humectants attract and absorb water, which helps maintain the skin’s moisture.

  • Common Humectants That My Skin Loves:

    • Hyaluronic Acid

    • Sodium Hyaluronate

    • Glycerin

    • Aloe

    • Sorbitol

    • Lactic Acide
