My Favorite Affordable Natural Hair Products ($10 & Under)
I’ve been natural for about 5 years now, and I’m still on the journey of learning my hair. I’ve tried tons of products from low-end to high-end. I’ve gotten caught up in the hype of natural hair products, and I’ve found myself purchasing a lot (strong emphasis on a lot) of products that ended up not working for my hair. Hair products have burned a hole in my wallet, and quite honestly, after years of trying to figure out my hair, one thing I learned is to not get caught up in hype. Don’t let people bully you into thinking you have to purchase $40 products in order to maintain healthy curls, because you don’t at all. Stick to what works for you, and if that’s affordable products at the drugstore, then go for it!
Here’s a list of my favorite products that I use on my type-4, low-porosity, high density hair…and they’re all under $15!
Clarifying Shampoos
For me, a clarifying shampoo is absolutely necessary. My low-porosity hair doesn’t absorb products very well, which results in a lot of product build-up and flakes. I wash my hair twice-a-week; and use a clarifying shampoo once-a-week. I don’t ask for much out a clarifying shampoo. Just get all the junk out my hair! Here are a few of my faves:
Rinse-Out Conditioners
There are so many great rinse-out conditioners that are under $10. I’ve been using Tresemme, Herbal Essences, and Aussie for years now, and have no complaints. While some may find the ingredients to be iffy, I’ve never had any issues with using any of these conditioners. They provide great slip, make my hair easier to detangle, and do a great job of moisturizing my hair.
Deep Conditioners
Deep conditioning is a must for me. It helps improve the health of my hair, keeps my hair hydrated and moisturized, and helps to prevent damage. These four deep conditioners are not only affordable, but they work so well on my hair.
Leave-In Conditioners
I’ve tried a fair share of leave-ins, and have always come back to these four as they moisturize my hair without causing build-up. Leave-ins are usually the product that makes or breaks my wash & go. If I go to thick and creamy, my hair won’t absorb it. If I go too light, my hair will be dry due to lack of moisture. I find these four leave-ins are happy mediums.
Moisturizers & Oils
I don’t ask for much out of a moisture. All I ask if that they moisturize my hair without weighing it down. These four are great affordable options. They provide moisture and shine without compromising body and volume.
Stylers
I’ve spend the most money overtime trying out different stylers, and I’ve found that cream stylers just don’t work for my low-porosity hair. They're just too thick, and just weigh down my hair. I find that gels and foams work a lot better for my hair. They’re lighter, and provide a better hold.
