My No-Foundation Glowing Skin Makeup Routine Using Black-Owned Products

Another Black History Month just came and went. I’ve been enjoying every bit of these black as hell blog posts, and I plan to continue them outside of Black History Month as well, but to close out this series, I’m sharing my go-to routine on how to get glowing skin with ZERO foundation, using black-owned products only.

Enjoy!

Step 1: Prime Skin With Liquid Illuminator (Danessa Myricks Beauty: Illuminating Veil - Shade: Radiance)

After completing my skin care routine, the first product I use to achieve glowy skin is Danessa Myricks Illuminating Veil. This product is amazing. It gives an instant glow to my dull winter skin. I use a pea-sized amount (anything more, and I’d look like the tin man), mix it with a moisturizer to thin it out, and apply it all over skin with my fingers.

Step 2: Apply Concealer to Spot Conceals Under The Eyes and on Imperfections (Juvia’s Place: I Am Magic Concealer - Shade: 11)

Next, I like to use a concealer that’s about one shade lighter than me to cover my under-eye circles and spot conceal any other imperfections such as pimples and/or dark spots. I use a concealer one shade lighter to create a natural brightening effect while still blending seamlessly into the skin. I like to blend out the concealer with a damp beauty blender.

Step 3: Lightly Dust Setting Powder On Areas That Were Concealed (Beauty Bakerie: Face Flour Baking Powder - Shade: Cassava)

After concealing, I like to set all of the areas I concealed with Beauty Bakerie’s Face Flour Baking Powder. I don’t bake; I just tap my powder brush into the powder, dust off the excess, and lightly dust the powder on my skin.

I loveeee blush. Mented Cosmetics’ Clay to Much Blush is my absolute favorite everyday blush. I like to create a sun-kissed effect with blush by applying it to the apples of my cheeks, and then lightly sweeping the blush across my nose, eyelids, and forehead.

In addition to a liquid highlighter, I like to apply a powder highlighter to the high points of my cheekbones, my brow bone, my chin, my forehead, and the tip of my nose with a small powder brush. The Midas Cosmetics X NEONMUA highlighter in the Dusk palette is the perfect shade of gold.

Step 6: Set Makeup With Setting Spray (Beauty Bakerie: Spray Your Grace Setting Spray)

It may seem as if a setting spray doesn’t do much, but it’s a key step in my routine…especially when I’m not wearing much makeup. The less makeup you wear, the quicker it’ll wear off. Setting spray extends the longevity of your makeup. On top of that, it also smoothes out your makeup, so all of the powder I apply during this routine becomes less detectable and cakey when I use a setting spray.

Step 7: Apply Mascara (Crayon Case: Marker Mascara)

I always like to apply mascara on my top and bottom lashes because it give an illusion of larger, brighter eyes by curling, darkening, lengthening and thickening natural eyelashes. The reason I apply mascara after I set my makeup is to avoid the setting spray making the mascara run and messing up my makeup.

To finish off the look, I like to apply a glossy sheer lip gloss to make my lips look juicy and poppin’. Tiese beauty is the perfect lip gloss for long lasting shine and moisture.
