How I Dyed My Hair Ginger

I've wanted to dye my hair a copper/ginger-like color for years now, but I just didn't know how to achieve it. I would search high and low on YouTube with zero success. It was always too red, too orange, or leaning more towards the blonde end of the spectrum. I wanted a color that encompassed ALL of those things; I wanted to look like Jessica Rabbit. It kinda sucks that she's a cartoon, because if she was real I would have surely called her up and asked her all about her hair lol. After realizing that I had nothing to go off of, I finally mustered up the courage to experiment! I headed over to the beauty supply store and picked up a couple of different dyes; reds, blondes, oranges...I tested out various combos on old bundles before I actually went ahead and dyed my actual hair.

Okay so here's how I got the color:

Step 1. I Dyed My Hair Blonde

I used two boxes of the Dark and Lovely Fade Resistant Rich Conditioning Lightener Dye in 384 Light Golden Blonde to lighten my dark brown natural hair. I followed the directions on the box; I dyed my roots 10 minutes before I needed to wash out the dye to keep them relatively dark. Because my skin tone is golden, I didn't want the end result to look like I didn't have any edges due to my hair blending into my scalp lol.

Step 2. Shampooed & Conditioned My Hair

After my hair was fully lightened to a golden blonde shade, I shampooed and deep conditioned my hair with Aussie Moist Shampoo and Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner (I swear by this product!). I then towel dried my hair.

Step 3. Mix Semi-Permanent Dyes

So here's the fun part; the color! To get my perfect shade of ginger, I mixed together a few Adore Semi-Permanent shades. My base shade was Ginger; 75% of the mixture was made up of that shade, while the rest of the mixture was equally comprised of Cajun Spice, French Cognac, Copper Brown and Cinnamon. I know, I know, I was a bit extra with the number of colors I used. You honestly don't need to be as extra as me. Just remember, the shade Ginger is the star here (it looks blond-ish on the bottle, but I promise you it is a true ginger). Once you find your perfect combo, slap that sucka in your hair, let it sit for 30-45 mins (15 if your using heat) and rinse it out. Woohoo, you now have ginger hair!
