Drumroll pleasseeeee!

I’m super excited to announce that I will be moving into a new apartment next month! This means that I’ll be rolling out some home & decor content. This blog post will be the first of many!

I’ve already started planning and purchasing items, and one thing that’s been a priority of mine is ensuring that I’m being as environmentally friendly as possible. Although it sometimes seems as if natural products equate to spending more money, I can assure you that this is a false narrative. By purchasing eco-friendly products for your home, you’re actually saving money do to the fact that most eco-friendly products are reusable. You won’t have to keep throwing away and repurchasing the same products over and over again.

Check out some easy ways to start building an eco-friendly home by checking out some of these products.

1. Brita Water Pitcher

I drink about 3 liters of water per day, so purchasing plastic water bottles doesn’t make much sense for me. Not only is it costly and time consuming due to the fact that I’d have to keep running to the grocery store, but plastic also has such a negative impact on the environment.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones that has a fridge with a built-in water filter, invest in a pitcher that has a water filter. This way, you can keep refilling your glass with zero guilt.

2. Re-usable Ziploc Bags

I never knew these existed, but I’m glad to have stumbled upon them. Ziploc bags are a must have for me when it comes to storing food and traveling with snacks. These reusable ziploc bags are perfect for just that! You can easily wash them and reuse!

3. Natural Reusable Cotton Rounds

The amount of disposable cotton rounds I use is insane. I feel like this is the one product that I find myself constantly repurchasing. I’ve been looking into eco-friendly reusable cotton pads, and I landed on these. These ones are super simple to use and wash. You just throw them in the mesh bag they came in and wash/dry them with the rest of your clothing.

4. Stainless Steel Straws

I went to a bar that had these one night, and I’ve been intrigued ever since. They’re awesome! I love how sturdy they are, and the stainless steel actually makes your drink taste colder! This set also comes with a cleaning brush, so rest assured, these reusable straws are sanitary.

5. Double Insulated Travel Mug

I must admit, I’m a “I’ll just stop at Starbucks” girl. Although a Starbucks run every morning sounds quick and easy, picking up this double insulated mug will save both the environment and your coins. Say goodbye to throwing away disposable cups and spending $5 every morning! This travel mug will also keep your drink hot for up to 6 hours if you’re worried about it not staying warm.

7. Refillable K Cups for Keurig

If you have a Keuring and drink coffee every morning like me, than you’re likely going through multiple boxes of k cups a month. A more efficient way (and better tasting if we’re being honest) of enjoying your daily cup of joe is to buy your favorite bag of coffee grounds and pour them into refillable k cups.

8. Refillable Hand Soap and Lotion Dispensers

Instead of constantly purchasing small bottles of soap and lotion, purchase big bottles of your favorite products and dispensers that can be refilled. This way, you’ll be utilizing less plastic and saving more coins. Hand soap and lotion dispensers are also a lot more ascetically pleasing than plastic bottles. They’ll look really pretty on your bathroom counter.

9. Multipurpose Liquid Castile Soap

This castile soap is truly magical. It can be used for almost anything; from washing your floors, to washing your face. It comes in a variety of fragrances as well. You’d be utilizing a lot less plastic by choosing to buy a bottle of this instead of multiple products, such as cleaning solution, body wash, dog shampoo, etc. If you’re looking for a multipurpose soap, look no further than Dr. Bronner’s.

10. Compostable Eco-Friendly Disposable Plates

Sometimes there’s no way around purchasing disposable dinnerware. If you’re hosting a party at your home, disposable items may be more efficient. If you do need to use disposable plates, stay away from traditional plastic or paper plates, and reach for compostable plates made out of biodegradable materials.
